This is the Week 4: Make it global for the Student Blogging Challenge. When was the last time you thought about water? Or turned up your nose to using the fosit in your kitchen and chosen a bottle of water instead?
Did you know that almost 1 billion people in the world do not have access to clean water?
Charity:water is an organization that helps provides clean water in developing countries.
As charity:water says “100% of public donations directly fund water projects. Diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. 90% of the 30,000 deaths that occur every week from unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions are of children under five years old. Many of these diseases are preventable. In Africa alone, people spend 40 billion hours every year just walking for water, most of the time it’s women and children walking to get it. When was the last time you walked miles to a pond to fetch some water to drink?”
One thing we can do to help charity: water is pledge our birthdays: at your next birthday party ask your friends to donate money to charity: water instead of gifts.
We take our access to clean water for granted everyday, why not sacrifice a little bit for people who could really use the help?
